Rec League Coaching

No prior soccer experience is needed to become an SVU rec league coach, only an interest in learning. SVU offers local courses prior to each season to train you and help get you started. These courses are free to SVU coaches. In addition, we provide coaching resources to help you form lesson plans for your season. If you have an interest in spending more quality time with your child and/or contribute to the development of other children, then please consider donating your time and talents to our club. We have over 70 teams per season and we cannot run a successful season without filling every coaching position.

Travel Team Coaching

For rec league coaches looking to take the next step, or more experienced coaches new to our organization, we offer the option of applying for a travel team coaching position. In early Spring of each year, we will post a notice and begin accepting applications. The selection process takes place prior to our late May travel tryouts for the following year’s teams. Our travel team coaching positions are for a one year period. Everyone must reapply each Spring. We encourage you to let us know you are interested. Email us or make contact with any board or the Director of Coaching to learn more about what you can do to prepare for a travel team coaching position.

For travel coaches, we offer training courses each summer. We stress continuing coaching education. The minimum license requirement is a USSF “E” certificate or an NSCAA Advanced Regional diploma. We update the site regularly with training opportunities nearby and any interested coach may also visit the “Contacts and Staff” link under the “Travels” page on this site to see links to course descriptions and schedules for VYSA, USSF & NSCAA.
