Week # 2 Of SSL Play

The TBU Premier 95/96's traveled to Sanford,FL on Saturday September 20th to play another FYSA State Cup Qualification double header. No easy task was at hand in either match as they took on the defending State Champion Space Coast FC at noon and State Runnerup IMG at 4:00 PM.

The match against Space Coast FC was a battle from the first whistle. An aggressive, fast paced first half ended knotted at 0-0. The 2nd half was just as physical and TBU got on the score sheet first with a gem from Codey Iturri. Space Coast answered quickly and tied it at 1-1. 12 minutes later Space Coast FC took the lead at 2-1. From that point on TBU took control. Codey Iturri scored his second of the match to tie the game at 2-2. TBU's intensity nearly resulted in the go ahead goal on a couple different occasions in the final 10 but in the end the match finished tied 2-2.

In the 2nd game of the afternoon TBU went up against IMG out of Bradenton, FL. TBU came out a little flat to start this one and IMG took an 1-0 lead in to the half. A reenergized group took the field to start the final half and with 11 minutes left tied it on a beautiful strike from Thomas Whiting 19 yards out on a direct kick. Ryan Cooper made a couple of key stops in  the one late and TBU hit the frame on two different ocassions creating a 1-1 final.

Post game Coach Fabio Suarez had these comments. "In a weekend were the games did not count towards our NPL league, we wanted to take full of advantage and challenge the boys to play a bit out of there comfort zone. Switching the formation in the first game to 3-2-3-2, we gave our 5 attacking players free reign to move in and out of position to create space to attack and passing lanes to better plays penetrating balls. While we were a bit reluctant in the first half to take that freedom, once they did in the 2nd Half I felt like it was working for us. Attacking in diagonals both on the dribble and with some great passes, the invested numbers forward proved to be affective when needed. Coming up huge with 2 goals in the first game was Codey.

In our second game we went back to our normal 4-5-1. I think we looked comfortable but the killer instinct wasn't there. Once we went down 1-0 we saw the fight we're used to seeing and coming away with the equalizer on a set piece was Thomas. The best part about the goal was the behind the scenes no one got to see. As Jerson lined up to have a go himself, Thomas felt like he could do something positive for us... Not only was Thomas ready for the moment, Jerson was ready to let his teammate do his thing. That to me was the best part of the weekend.I look forward to seeing these relationships grow and the soccer to only get better."

TBU returns to NPL play next weekend with matches next Saturday and Sunday at home.
