Capital Fall Classic Tournament Success

Congratulations to all the SVU boys teams who competed this weekend at the Capital Fall Classic Tournament in Richmond!

The SVU staff is extremely proud of all the teams and their efforts competing in the tournament. Each team showed development from the beginning of the season and performed well against clubs from locations throughout the state of Virginia as well as Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia. 

SVU had multiple teams advance to the semi-finals and finals of their division. Congratulations!!!

COE Bu12 Blue – Under head coach Trevor Nichols and assistant coach Edwin Joya, SVU’s top Boys u12 team won their group in the top division of the tournament with 1 draw (Bowie FC Elite 1-1), and 2 wins (Richmond Kickers Elite 9-0, Richmond Strikers Elite 5-0).  They took the championship match against Virginia Rush (3-0).

Comp Bu13 Blue – Lead by coach Mason Duke, SVU’s Competitive Boys u13 team qualified for the championship match in the 2nd division of the tournament with 1 draw 2 (Tidewater 2-2, and 2 wins (Herndon, and Richmond Kickers.  They played a competitive final, losing 1-2 to a strong SOCA team.

Comp Bu15 Blue – Under assistant coaches Edwin Joya and John Trelawny (head coach Floreal Pedrazo with the JMU men this weekend), SVU’s Competitive Boys u15 team won the tournament’s classic black division, qualifying for the championship match with 2 wins (Powhatan 7-0, Virginia Legacy 12-1), and 1 draw (Golden Ball 1-1).  They took the final match over Central Valley United 2-0.

Comp Bu17 Blue – Lead by head coach John Trelawny and assistant coach Chris Campbell, SVU’s Competitive Boys u17 qualified for the semi-final match in the classic division with 1 draw (Virginia Rush 0-0), and 1 win (CFC 2-0). They lost a closely contested semi-final match to Richmond Strikers Chesterfield (1-2).

Comp Bu19 Blue – Under the direction of head coach Trevor Nichols and assistant coach Mauricio Cavazos, SVU’s Competitive Boys u19 team finished 2nd place on points in the tournament’s superior division, with each of the 5 teams playing each other once (Richmond Strikers 4-2, Danville Blast 0-1, Fredericksburg FC 1-0, and Premier Athletics 2-0).
