Capital Fall Classic Tournament Success for SVU Girls

Congratulations to all the SVU girls teams who competed this weekend at the Capital Fall Classic Tournament in Richmond! 

The SVU staff is pleased to announce the successful performances of the girls teams during the end of the season tournament. Each team showed progression and improvements from the beginning of the season and competed against clubs from locations throughout the state of Virginia.

SVU had multiple teams advance to the semi-finals and finals of their division. Congratulations!!!

COE Gu12 Blue – Under head Coach Juan Flores, SVU’s Girls u12 team won their group in the superior division and qualified for the semi-final match with 2 wins (Gunston Soccer Club 5-0, ODFC 6-2). They played a difficult opponent in Herndon Youth Soccer and was unable to advance to the finals. 

Comp Gu14 Blue – Lead by head coach Trevor Nichols and assistant coach Dlovan Hasaan, SVU’s Competitive Girls u14 team qualified for the championship match in the 2
nd division of the tournament with 3 wins (Culpeper Soccer Club 7-0, PWSI Courage 6-2 and FC Richmond 3-0). They played a competitive final against a strong SOCA team, tying 1-1 after regulation and overtime. Unfortunately, the team lost in a penalty kick shoot out to determine the champion.

Comp Gu15 Blue – Lead by head coach Juan Flores, SVU’s Competitive Girls u15 team won the tournament’s classic division and qualified for the semi final match with 1 win (Arlington Soccer Association 4-0), 1 draw (Richmond Strikers Chesterfield - Elite 3-3). They won the semi final match over Fredericksburg FC 1-0. In the final match, the team faced the Richmond Strikers Chesterfield - Elite for the second time and lost an extremely close contest 1-2.

Comp Gu19 Blue – Under the direction of head coach Brent Loope, SVU’s Competitive Girls u19 team finished 2nd place in the tournament’s superior division and advanced to the semi final match with 1 win (U19 Madison Mountaineers 2-0), and 1 draw (Virginia Rush Soccer Club 0-0). The team played a difficult opponent in Beach FC and fell 0-1 during a tightly contested match.
