The Spring 2008 SoccerFest is almost here – Saturday, May 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Smithland Field. The day will consist of round robin games for U8 and above teams with each team playing at least three games, a day-long picnic and other sideline activities. All U6 end-of-season games are scheduled Friday night and their families are invited to join in on the fun of the SoccerFest and picnic on Saturday at Smithland
Basic Game Guidelines
Over 70 games are scheduled throughout the day – see regular game schedule for May 31. All games will run on the ½ hour with 25 minute games and no half-time. All teams will play at least 3 games. The schedule is tight and only allows for a 5 minute field switch time so teams must hit the field ready to play. Teams should warm up and stretch off to the side prior to their game time. Fields - Some of our teams will be sharing and traveling to multiple fields, please see diagram below which outlines the field layout at Smithland.
Thank you again goes to the WalMart Distribution Center for their generous donation in supporting our SoccerFest. Thanks to WalMart's support of Harrisonburg Soccer Association / Shenandoah Valley United, hotdogs/hotdog buns, water, paper plates and condiments (enough for 1,500) will be provided. WalMart also donated 3 MP3 players with starter kits to raffle and items to use at our Snack Shack year round - coffee pot, coolers and crock pots.

Thank you also to Aramark at JMU for providing ice for the day of our event!
Soccer Family Picnic
Each family per designated team/division will be asked to contribute to the SoccerFest picnic. (See list below for your age division assigned item.) A group picnic will be held along the fence between Field 2A and 2B with additional beverage tents at the other field locations (see field map for specific locations). If you have picnic items that need to be kept cool, please plan to bring a cooler as well. Please put your names on any items (dishes, tables, tents, coolers, etc. brought to the field.)
- U6 Coed - Fruit (slice fruit / fruit salads)
- U8 Academy - Breakfast Bagels
- U8 Coed - Sports Drinks (1 case per family) iced in a cooler.
- U8 Girls/ U10 Girls - Deserts
- U9 Academy - Orange Juice for Early Teams
- U10 Coed / U12 Coed - Sides including greens salads, potato and pasta salads, veggies, etc.
- U18 - Chips and Dips
T & T Fun Zone Inflatables
Thanks once again to the many donors (listed on website) that helped support the Inflatables. We will have 3 Inflatables adjacent to Field 3 and 2 Inflatables between Field 1 and 2B. Each of these inflatables will be staffed by T & T.
Tents / Tables
It will be a hot day and tents will be needed to provide shade for the food items and for your team. Each team is encouraged to provide a table/tent for food items. Some teams are also planning to do their individual “team“ tents, complete with decorations and spirit. (List of tent volunteers so far are listed below.)
Several teams have planned to do a Team Tent complete with decorations. Team Tents can be set up on the perimeter but must not impair spectators coming and going to the games.
Spring 2008 Patches
See your coach for your Spring 2008 Rec Patch. (Coaches – your patches will be distributed to you on the field on Saturday.) This is a special patch as it is the last season for HSA with SVU blossoming out of the ground! Thanks to Kirsten Parmer for the unique design and creativity!

SVU Merchandise / T-shirts
SVU Merchandise including tshirts, car magnets, car decals, etc. will be available for sale. Pick-up of preorder “Soccer Fest” merchandise will be at the Snack Shack. If you missed out on the preorder, you may also place an order at Soccer Fest. Payment for merchandise will need to be made at the time of order and merchandise will be delivered as soon as it is available.
Parking
Expect an overflow of parking as it will be very tight.
-
U18s – use the second entrance to Smithland Field and park on the far side of the U18 field until area is full.
-
Overflow – there are a couple overflow areas, but not enough to accommodate everyone. We do have permission to park on Linda Lane or at the new elementary school. Team coaches/parents – good idea to coordinate a carpool for your team from the elementary school to the Field.
Volunteers
Thanks to our many volunteers that have stepped forward in helping with the preplanning of Soccer Fest, tshirt orders, food preparation, etc. Without these efforts, the Soccer Fest would not be doable. Please keep in mind that the Soccer Fest is like a big family picnic where everyone pitches in. Please help with set-up and clean-up as much as you can.
