Referee Contract

Fall 2007/Spring 2008

As a referee/assistant referee employed by the Harrisonburg Soccer Club, I recognize and agree to the following:

• I will not accept an assignment if there is any question if I will be able to fulfill the commitment.
• I will record the time, date, field location and division of my assignment when the assignment is made. I will call to clarify if later I am in doubt of any of the details.
• If I need to cancel, I will notify the assignor as soon as possible. If I know of an available replacement, I will inform the assignor.
• I will be familiar with the Laws of the Game and the Modifications for the particular age division prior to my assignment.
• I will dress in appropriate referee attire when refereeing.
• I will arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the first game in a set of games I am assigned.
• I will introduce myself to the coaches and the other game referees or assistant referees before the start of each game and inform them of my job.
• I will have the proper pay card, fill it our to it’s entirety and get it signed by the coaches, before the game starts.
• I will work with the other referee/assistant referee(s) as a team.
• As a team, we will inspect the goals to be sure they are secure and that the nets are properly attached.
• As a team, we will inspect the players for proper attire; shoes, shin guards & jewelry are the main concern.
• I will, to the best of my ability, see that the game is played to the appropriate rules and take my duties seriously.
• I will explain my calls as appropriate to help players understand the game, particularly with the younger age groups.
•  As a team, after the last game, we will return the flags and other field equipment to the appropriate location.
• I will report any spectator inappropriate behavior to the coach(es), and any inappropriate coach behavior to the referee assignor.
• I recognize that while I am dressed as a referee, I am a representative of the HSC, and will act responsibly, whether it is before, during, after or between games.
• I will not socialize with others while the game is in progress.

I recognize the following game cancellation policy:

• If a game is canceled and the referee is notified more than 48 hours before the game start, they will not be paid; less than 48 hours, they will be paid.
• If a game is canceled more than 15 minutes before the start time due to inclement weather, they will not be paid, otherwise they will be paid.
• I will show respect to coaches, players & parents, as they are to show respect to referees.
• I will ensure my name & address are legible when mailing in my pay card.
• I recognize that not adhering to the above guidelines will limit my opportunities for being assigned games.
