Skyline League Reorganizes and Adds Two New Clubs!
Posted on: February 12, 2009
SVU is excited to announce the addition of the Roanoke Star and New River United Soccer Association clubs to the Skyline League beginning this Spring. The entry of the two clubs is part of a collective agreement between the six major clubs (Augusta FC, SOCA, Shenandoah Valley United, Lynchburg United, Roanoke Star & New River United) that now form the core of the league.
The additions will lead to an immediate increase in the level of competition for our teams. It also provides the league the opportunity to reorganize and form a new Premier Division. This Premier Division will be comprised of the top teams from each of the six major clubs. Our White teams will benefit as well from the leagues ability to create a more complete Classic Division. This reorganization is important as it allows all of our teams to compete in developmentally appropriate divisions going forward.
We will also be working with the league and the other clubs going forward to create block scheduling for the six clubs in the Premier Division. With block scheduling, our premier teams would all be scheduled to play one club on the same day. This means that if we are scheduled to play SOCA on any given Saturday, then our scheduler would work with theirs to schedule all of our premier teams on their fields that day. This creates more club unity and allows for better travelling arrangements for our parents and players.
We anticipate other benefits as well. The increase in participation and competition will promote better visibility for the league and its members. We can also expect to schedule more friendlies for our strongest teams against the VCCL teams at SOCA and Roanoke Star. For those not aware, the VCCL (Virginia Club Champions League) is a premier league that SOCA and Roanoke's best teams play in.
This news is a positive step forward for the Skyline League and one which SVU supports. Our club is committed to player development. We feel a stronger and more comprehensive Skyline League, and our association with quality clubs with similar values, will help us better pursue this commitment.
As part of our support we will be committing all future SVU travel teams to the league! We look forward to Skyline's continued growth and development and the benefits it will bring to our community's soccer program.
