Winter Coaches Training Week

  •  Topic: Setting a Standard for Success & Creating a Positive Culture for Kids to Excel
  • Location: Horizons Edge Outdoor Turf 2 (must enter turf through facility).
  • Clinician: Nora Maguire White, Sports Programs Director, Horizons Edge
  • Nora attended James Madison University as a two-sport student-athlete in soccer and lacrosse. There she received her BA in English and Communications and went on to become a four-time collegiate Lacrosse All-American, a five-time US Women’s Lacrosse team member, a member of the US Women’s Lacrosse U-23 Team, a two-time Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year, and the 1992 Female Athlete of the Year at James Madison University. Most recently Nora joined the staff at Horizons Edge, having spent five years as SOCA-Augusta’s Regional Director. Nora has spent 21 years as a coaching education instructor with United Soccer Coaches and U.S. Soccer.

  •  Topic: Creating a Positive Culture for Kids to Excel

  • Clinician: Lori Gano-Overway, Program Director and Adviser, Coaching Minor, JMU Department of Kinesiology.
  • Dr. Lori Gano-Overway’s research interest, which includes over 50 published/co-published articles (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Lori_Gano-Overway), is in exploring how the social psychological climate and coaching practices can be structured to provide positive experiences for young people and foster positive youth development. Additionally, she explores how to create coach education and coach development programs to improve coach learning.

  • Location: Horizons Edge Indoor Turf 2
  • Clinician: Vinny Caltabiano, Director of Virginia at Coerver Coaching
  • Vinny began as the Director of Virginia for Coerver Coaching in 2014 after two assistant collegiate coaching stints with Washington College and Stevenson University where he had a successful collegiate playing career.   •  Topic: Where are Goals Scored? How Do We Create these Environments in Training?
  • Location: Horizons Edge Conference Room
  • Clinician: Michael-Ryan Poma, JMU Women’s Soccer Director of Analytics & Video
  • Michael attends James Madison University where he will be graduating with a degree in Sports Management with a concentration in Sports Analytics this spring. Michael began his coaching career at Spotswood High School as the analyst for the Men’s Varsity team and Men’s JV Head Coach. He later joined the JMU Women’s Soccer coaching team as the team analyst. Michael has also guest coached with SOCA-Augusta and SVU. Most recently, Michael was selected as an Analytics & Video Specialist with the US Women’s & Youth National Team.
