At Home Training Initiative for Travel Players

SVU At Home Training Initiative

SVU Travel Families,

Thank you for your patience during this time of unprecedented challenge for our families, club, community and country. First and foremost, on behalf of our SVU and Horizons Edge, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Please allow me to be among the many to encourage you to continue to practice social distancing and adhere to all Virginia and CDC health and safety guidelines.

We understand that while perhaps our players might be glad they are out of school, that there is also likely great disappointment in the lack of social, mental, and physical interaction with their teammates- club and/or high school. In the time since our world suddenly halted, SVU & Horizons Edge have been singularly focused on developing an At Home Training Initiative with three clear goals in mind:

  1. Connect our players with their teammates and coaches for social and emotional support.
  2. Give our players the resources- coach and peer support to remain physically active and even take this time to improve skill sets.
  3. Use the beautiful game as a resource to bring joy and fun into our players lives!

As we face our new reality together, we hope that the SVU At Home Training Initiative provides support and reprieve for our players until we can safely meet together again on the fields.

Soccer is such a big part of “normal” for our families; and Rebecca, Tom and I have been hard at work finding solutions that can support players and families during this difficult time. It is our hope that by bringing a plan for physical activity and skill development, combined with peer and team collaboration and connectivity can be stabilizing and help to keep a little sense of normalcy. The SVU At Home Training Initiative is an attempt to keep the love and joy of the beautiful game of soccer in our players’ lives at a time when perhaps connectivity and interaction is so needed.

What’s next? Your coaches will be contacting you in the coming days to ask that you get on a video call with your player to review the SVU At Home Training Initiative which will be based out of Google Classroom. The program entails weekly team connection with your coach, assignment of accountability buddies within your players team, a weekly outline, club, league, and national challenges.

When might we expect to be on the field? According to Governor Northam’s Executive Order 53, at this time, we are scheduled to return to the fields for training June 11th with a proposed CCL competition schedule beginning the weekend of June 27-28. Please understand that changes may certainly occur that are completely out of our control, but this is the current plan. Most importantly, I write this as a letter of encouragement to be brave and courageous, to see the silver lining of what is in front of us through this time and always.

Best wishes and be well!

Nora Maguire White
