u9 – u10 Challenge

    2024-2025 NEW CHALLENGE FORMAT:
    u10 ( 2015-2016 birth years for Fall 2024) Challenge Teams: Two (2) training nights + matches on Saturdays in NEW “Valley Challenge League”. Players will be allocated to teams that will train and compete together throughout the season. We will offer both boys and girls teams. This is not a co-ed program.

    Players commit for a full year. Full participation in team events is expected.  Coaches have discretion to manage team attendance for the benefit of all team members.

    The U10 Challenge program will have an age appropriate player development curriculum and methodology overseen by the SVU Director of Coaching.

    Who is the Challenge Program for?: If your child is searching for professionally led coaching in an organized and competitive environment, excels in their current program, or is interested in playing travel soccer in the future; Challenge program is perfect for them.

    Is there any Tryouts?: 
    u10 (2015-2016) Challenge:  Yes. Participation is through a tryout selection only. Players are selected to a pool and placed on balance teams to participant in league play. Team are formed for both girls and boys

    What Challenge Match Days look like?
    u10 Challenge: u10 players will play in our NEW Valley Challenge League that will consist of teams from SVU, Augusta FC (Waynesboro) , SOCA (Charlottesville)  and Rockbridge United (Lexington). Each team will play one (1) match each Saturday for 8 matches over the course of the season.

    Challenge Matches Format:
    u10 Challenge: format is 7v7

    IMPORTANT DATES:
    u10 Challenge (Boys and Girls Teams):
    * Two (2) x 75 mins training sessions per week –
    Monday 5:15pm – 6:30pm @ Horizons Edge & Thursday 5:15pm – 6:30pm @ JMU Sentara

    * Training Begins – the week of Monday March 18th & Thursday March 21st

    * Potential Match Dates: See Game Changer App

    * Home Match Locations: Horizons Edge & Rockingham Park will be home fields. Expect some local travel to Staunton, Waynesboro and Lexington for away matches.

    Fall 2024 details have not yet been confirmed. Check back in August.

    SVU CHALLENGE JERSEY KIT

    This jerseys will be an additional $24.00 fee. They will be necessary to purchase, if you did not participate during the Spring 2021, Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 season.

  • Financial Aid

    The purpose of the SVU Financial Aid program is to provide financial support for families with the greatest need so that they may participate in SVU programs without financial hardship. Financial aid is available in the fall and spring for qualifying families in the Recreation, Challenge and Travel programs based on demonstrated need and SVU’s ability to fund the assistance.

    FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION AND APPROVAL

    All families requesting financial aid must complete a Financial Aid Form. All financial aid requests will be reviewed by staff and will be kept confidential. Applicants for financial aid MUST APPLY EACH TAX YEAR (April 15-April 15), with complete and current Information. The level of aid for which an applicant qualifies can be requested for programs throughout the year.  However, each financial aid request must be approved for each program.  Each financial aid request is subject to available funds. Any financial aid awards given will apply only to the current program registration.

    Completed Financial Aid Forms may be emailed to the SVU Support Team [email protected], mailed or dropped off at the SVU Office (SVU Soccer:  735 East Market Street, Unit C Harrisonburg, VA 22801)

    FINANCIAL AID COVERAGE

    Financial aid is applied to registration fees only. It does not apply to uniform or other equipment expenses or any additional tournament fees or expenses.

    The amount of financial aid provided may vary by family. The amount is determined based on participation in public assistance programs (Medicaid, Free/Reduced Lunch Program, etc.), or by documenting income within established limits, as well as the total amount of aid offered to all other participants during the season.

    The aid approved on that form will only apply to the current program you applied for. Any aid requested for additional programs (camps, clinics, additional training, etc.) will need to be submitted in writing. Submitting a new application is not necessary within the same tax year.  Not all programs are eligible for financial aid.
